Riau Book - The price of rice in the market kept creeping up. It is recorded in the new market Pangkalan Kerinci, Pelalawan.

The rainy season is one reason the number of rice supply is reduced and thus have consequences in rice prices in the market which become uncontrolled.

The crops are not distributed evenly in a number of rice supplier areas such as West and North Sumatera make rice traders scrambling among them when supplies arrive.

For IR1 quality type of rice is worth about USD 15,000 per kilo while the rice quality IR2 was worth Rp.11.000 previously , now become Rp.14.000.

In response this problems, the Head of Industry and Trade and Markets of Pelalawan Drs Zulhermandas through Head Affairs Section of Procurement and Distribution Kastan, explained all this happened as a result of continuous monsoon rains during the past three months. Thus, has led to the rise of rice prices in the market.

"The soaring price of the rice is due to the rainy season and it would be obstacle in rice distribution," said Kastan.

When asked about the anticipation action to hold the increases of rice price, Kastan said no preparations to anticipate it. "Given to the our limited budget Market Operation (OP) and in previous years has never doing OP," he said.

Besides that, Kastan continue his explanation, the difficulties to conduct the supervision to speculation due to the absence of rice distributor in Pelalawan. "And this is our difficulties to do some supervision" he said furtheremore.

When asked about coordination among government agencies and Bulog to conduct OP, Kastan blithely replied that there was never any coordination.

"But we are optimistic for the coming months would start low rainfall, with low intensity of rain, we hope the major harvesting could be implemented and of course, the scarcity and rising prices will be controlled," Kastan ended his explanation.
